Quite a scary statement. ‘Going under the Knife’. People underestimate the ‘middle’ of beauty. It’s either the normal conventional treatments we all know such as facials, mani’s, pedi’s, tinting, etc. Or the more extreme, invasive treatments such as rhytidectomy (facelift), rhinoplasty (nose), blepharoplasty (eyes), etc. What everyone seems to forget is what’s in the ‘middle’. As therapists, there is a WHOLE LOT MORE we can offer to our clients without them having to GO UNDER THE KNIFE!!
Dermaplanning:
This is a new skincare trend which actually is all about exfoliation. This new and innovative treatment, leaving your skin brighter, smoother, glowing, and more youthful. It also removes any unwanted “fluff” we tend to notice in those selfies. The procedure involves the use of a 10-inch scalpel, which curves into a sharp point. The blade is used together with serums on the skin where you practise “shaving” movements along the forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and neck giving an instant improvement to the texture and tonicity of the skin. And the best part about it all is that it is painless with no downtime. Available through trained Beauty Therapists.
Micro-needling:
I’m sure is a treatment many of us have already heard of, or even experienced. This effortless treatment is either done with a derma pen or roller that is made up of fine needles which cause tiny micro-channels in the top layers of the skin. There is initially controlled skin injury which results in the skin creating new collagen and elastin in the Dermis of the skin. This specialised rejuvenation treatment is designed for a wide range of conditions including sun damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, general scarring, post-acne scarring, improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in pore size and stretch marks. Available through trained Beauty Therapists.
Liquid face lift:
This is a facial contouring procedure that involves the use of strategically placed Botox and/or Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers around the face. This “injectable facelift” can create a younger, plumper look and can address concerns such as lines, wrinkles, volume loss and sagging. This treatment has been making a noticeable impact in aesthetic medicine during the past few years and is typically more subtle than surgery. Available through Medical Professionals.
4D Thread lift:
This is a first of its kind for South Africa and is a very interesting treatment where PDO (polydioxanone) thread is inserted into the skin, muscle or subcutaneous fat via a thin needle. This PDO thread relaxes muscles and tendons and stimulates the production of new collagen in the skin. PDO also stimulates the synthesis of elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin, both of which are vital for keeping the skin looking plump and youthful. A lifted appearance can be seen immediately after the treatment and the overall texture of the skin becomes thicker, tighter and firmer. The fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed away. The great thing is that the body naturally absorbs the threads in six to eight months, however the effect of the treatment can last for up to two years. Available through Medical Professionals.
Plexr Technology:
This is a device that was developed in Italy using plasma energy to create a plasma discharge within the skin to provide a number of beneficial effects for many skin problems. When this plasma discharge is created in the skin it causes sublimation of fluids contained in the superficial layers of the skin. The device actually causes the superficial layers of the epidermis to become vapourised and preserves the deeper layers of the skin, drastically reducing any potential skin damage. This works by creating a series of minute dots on the skin which triggers an instant contraction and tightening of skin fibres to create a lifting, remodelling and rejuvenating effect. This new exciting technology can be used for any non-surgical face lifting as well as acne scarring, keloids, warts, stretch marks, tattoo removals and so much more. Available through Beauty Therapists and Medical Professionals.
It is so exciting to know that with all of these new and innovative treatments out there, firstly, we as Therapists can upgrade ourselves and constantly learn about the latest trends, and secondly, we can assist our clients without having them go to the extreme in order for them to feel and look beautiful. After all, that’s the primary reason why we are all in this industry. Our challenge is to constantly grow ourselves into a new and beautiful world of skincare.
