GWD is a social project that is aimed at everyone. The main goals of GWD are to add value to our lives, make us think of our lifestyle choices, evaluate our stress and last but not least to incorporate healthy living. This all starts by making better decisions, one day at a time, hopefully motivating better decisions for the rest of the year.
Below are a few suggestions as to how to incorporate wellness into our daily lives.
Get More Sleep/ Better quality of sleep
Try and go to bed earlier, even if it is 10-15 minutes earlier – your body and mind need adequate rest in order to function properly.
Avoid TV, PC, Cellphones 15 minutes prior to bed time – it is proven that screen time before bed hampers quality of sleep.
Drink Water
Hydration is key to many functions of the body. It aids in detoxification, digestion, circulation to name a few.
Walk Daily
Try and walk for 15-30 minutes a day. Not only is it good for the body but it helps alleviate stress.
Stretch
Stretching is such an important exercise yet so many people do not do it. It increases flexibility, joint range, circulation. Stretching also improves your posture, enhances coordination as well as lowers your stress levels.
Healthy Snacks vs Unhealthy Snacks
We all have moments when you just want that biscuit or something unhealthy but to avoid a binge on the unhealthy snacks, try the following tricks.
Try and avoid having unhealthy snacks in the house
Keep a bowl of fruit visible on the table/counter
If you have a few unhealthy snacks in the cupboard, put the healthier options in front. That way, you see the healthier option first.
Eat a Good Breakfast
Life tends to be so rushed and fast paced that often we leave the house without even having breakfast. This does not set a good start to the day and is not great for the metabolism as well as our concentration. Try eating fresh fruit with yoghurt or cereals for breakfast.
Taking the first step towards a healthier you is always the hardest. That is what is so great about the Global Wellness Day. It makes that step so much easier and it is a great motivation to keep it going for the rest of the year.
