As a qualified therapist the road of career choices is a vast one. We need to keep in mind that the beauty industry is one that is continuously evolving, with new treatments, new products, and the latest technology. What this means is that there is always an opportunity for growth and to learn something new.
Where to from here?
This is a topic that is always up for discussion with my students in my classroom. I always end up saying that within the beauty industry opportunities are endless. One of the main reasons I am so passionate about this industry is that there are so many career options that suit each individual. Whether you are a more conservative therapist, an outspoken therapist or a go getter, there is something for you. With a continuous growing industry, careers options are even broader.
It brings me great pride to see some of my past students on social media on a cruise ship, in different countries, running their own salons and working as therapists who are fulfilling their passion and earning an income. This brings me back to the point of “opportunities are endless” … no matter which career option within the beauty industry is chosen, there is always a means of income.
I have seen many therapists start a small home salon and grow to having their own premises. Mobile therapists have become very popular, offering treatments to clients in the comfort of their homes. It is all about PASSION! If you enjoy working with clients, then a spa or salon is where you should be. If you want to share your knowledge, then you should consider becoming a trainer or an educator.

Advantages of having international qualifications
To put it simply, having an international qualification opens major doors for you. Most salons and spas require their therapists to have an international qualification. Having an international qualification broadens your scope of career choices and gives you the upper hand when applying for jobs, going for interviews and can increase your earning potential.
Beauty therapy treatments are offered worldwide. If you plan on relocating from South Africa to another country, having an international qualification will be a great advantage! It will be easier for you to apply for and secure a job. Let’s also not forget that this includes the cruise ship career option and the wonderful travelling opportunities.
ITEC, VTCT and Cidesco are some of the more common international exam options which are offered in the beauty industry. International exams are held annually at our BTI campuses. We assist our students in reaching their goals by encouraging them to partake and complete these international exams, as we never know what the future holds.
